We opened the Astronaut Foods Neapolitan Freeze-Dried Ice Cream Sandwiches with anticipation, eager to see how space-age technology managed to recreate a beloved treat. After rehydrating ours (as instructed), we were struck by the rich, creamy texture and vibrant, layered flavors of strawberry, pistachio, and vanilla. Surprisingly, it tasted remarkably close to its frozen counterpart, though the freeze-dried version had a unique, slightly chewy texture that added an interesting twist. The convenience of the 6-count pack and the nostalgic NASA branding were definite perks, making it feel both futuristic and comforting. While we wouldn’t claim it surpasses traditional ice cream, we found ourselves satisfied—even a bit amazed—by how well this space dessert hit the mark.
